No, it's not a computer. It doesn't have a keyboard. But it's no
larger than a laptop, slips easily into your attache, goes with
you on your travels, and at less than 2 pounds, doesn't strain
your arm when you take it along! It is the Nakamichi SoundSpace
2, a Stereo Music System that redefines the words portable and
versatile, a music system at home anywhere in the world because
Nakamichi is at home everywhere in the world!
Detailed Description
SoundSpace 2 is an AM/FM Stereo radio,
an alarm clock, a dictation machine and an MP3/Windows Media™
player/recorder. It will operate on batteries, but comes with a
universal AC adapter that can be used anywhere. And the tuner works
everywhere, quite remarkable as world travelers know!
When not in use, SoundSpace 2's speakers retract into the main unit
and the control and display panels are protected by a cover so
SoundSpace 2 slips easily and safely into an attache case. When in
use, SoundSpace 2's speakers pivot up at the correct angle for optimum
sound dispersion, the cover swings away to reveal the controls and
display, and the digital media player's display panel tilts up so it
can be seen from a distance. A woofer for bass reinforcement is
located underneath main unit. SoundSpace 2 is at home on a desk, a
nightstand, an end table. Closed, it's as smooth and sleek as a cat
and rugged enough to go with you. Touch a pad on front, and stereo
speakers pivot into place, a panel swings up to reveal controls and an
illuminated display, and you're ready to rock! Operate the SoundSpace
2 from the panel, or use its wireless remote control if you prefer.
On one side is a detachable digital-audio player/recorder that
weighs a mere 3 ounces. Docked to the main system, it is operable by
the remote control. Detached, it responds to its own controls and is
powered by two AAA cells or a NiMH battery (included) that recharges
when the player is docked and powered from the AC line. The player
decodes MP3 (MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3) and Windows Media™ Audio (WMA)
files using a high-speed low-power RISC processor and firmware-based
algorithms that are user-upgradable to support future formats; 24-bit
D/A converters ensure the best sound now and in the future.
The player/recorder uses a removable 128 MB SmartMedia™ card
(included) that stores a remarkable amount of music, more than two
hours of near CD-quality sound at the most popular MP3 data rate, even
more at a lower data rate. Or, the card can record more than 8 hours
of dictation using the player's own ADPCM encoder. Being a solid-state
device, there are no moving parts to wear out nor will the player skip
when you jog. Windows® 98 software to create MP3 files from CDs and
transfer them to the player via a USB comes with the system, and MP3
and WMA files are readily available on the Internet. A sensitive
microphone with automatic level control is built in so note taking is
simple. There's even a tiny speaker in the player to check dictation.
Music and voice files can share the same SmartMedia card and are
stored in separate directories.
You can play back files through SoundSpace 2's main unit by docking
the player to the side; other music sources can be connected via a
stereo mini-plug. Both main unit and player have high-power headphone
outputs, and an excellent set of headphones comes with the system. The
desk unit has Bass/Midrange/Treble controls as well as Loudness
compensation, and there are Bass and Treble controls on the player.
SoundSpace 2's custom-designed 2.5 x 1.8 cm speakers work
synergistically with its 8-cm downward-firing woofer to produce a
remarkably full sonic image that must be heard to be believed.
For business or pleasure, at home or away, nothing is as versatile,
as portable or as sonically pleasing as the Nakamichi SoundSpace 2! |
